Footy is BACK!!!!!
Once again its Carlton and Richmond who have the honors of opening the year on a Thursday night @ the MCG. Carlton have greater expectations this year, they will be looking to not only make the 8, but have some impact once they get there. They have added a couple of mature recruits in Laidler and Duigan who have slotted straight in the line up. Laidler is a good get as he had show enough promise as that 3rd tall down back or roaming wingman at Geelong. But as many have found out it was a tough side to crack into over the past 4 seasons. Duigan looks likely as well. The Tigers have also added a bit of experience in Houli and Grigg. These guys will be hungry to be in the top 22 all year and I think they will. Both will run through the midfield and help out youngsters Martin and Cotchin.
I do see some improvement coming from the Tigers this year but it won't be till say 2013 that this team has a real impact on the competition. Carlton on the other hand, time is now! this team will improve. Carlton will dominate the clearances and stoppages tonight and give their forwards more opportunities tonight. The likes of Gibbs, Murphy, Scotland, Simpson, Carrazzo, Lucas, Russell and leader Judd will have to much run and talent for the young tigers to stay with. Expect Waite, Walker to provide good targets and Betts and Garlett to have plenty of opportunities to post a big score against Richmond's inexperienced back posts Astbury and Rance. Richmond to have a good crack early but I expect Carlton to win by 5 or 6 goals in the end. Blues to continue the trend and cover here tonight!

ReplyDeleteNice way to start the season! But it's true what they say, we had the bounce of the ball tonight going our way. That late shot with seconds remaining could have killed our bet.
Carlton win by 20 but had to fight all the way to the death trailing at 3/4 time by 14. Good win
