New Jersey Nets At Atlanta Hawks

These two teams play each other again so early into the season. The Hawks demolished the Nets in NJ in the 1st match by 36pts!So while this is a revenge spot for the Nets they are also playing the 2nd of a 3 game road trip, on a b2b and playing 4th in 5 days! Not to mention they will again be without Lopez! This team is really struggling, their start to the season has resulted in losses by 14, 36 & 16!

Atlanta on the other hand have started 2-0 with wins over the Nets and Wizards. They have looked sharp and full of energy. I like Teague starting PG, he is quick and pushes the ball. Basically the Nets are in a terrible spot and the Hawks are rested, are at home and playing very well. Can't see NJ keeping up here. Hawks win big again.

Philadelphia 76ers At Utah Jazz

The 76ers are in the middle of a long 5 game road trip to start the season. So far they are 1-1 after beating Pheonix easily a few nights back. I like this team they have plenty of depth and are solid in all positions across the court. The Jazz have lost their 1st 2 opening games on the road badly! While their opposition was tough they showed very little! This will be their home opener I'm just not sure where this team is going?

Both teams have had a days rest. The form of the 76ers in their last start will install plenty of confidence and will get the job done here with a small line to cover!

Chicago Bulls At Los Angeles Clippers

The Clips have moved from favs to outsiders in this one with the line up 1/2 a point more now than when I took it last night. I still like the Clippers here tonight so have added extra 1/2 unit!

They have started the season 1-1, both on the road. Remember how terrible they were on the road last year so this is an improvement already! Tonight is their home opener! Their first chance to unveil their new stars in front of what will be a sellout!

The Bulls have been here before! For the Lakers opener. This will be their 4th game on the road to start the season and are on b2b games after defeating the Kings last night. The Bulls look a little rusty to me. They are 2-1 but they stole the win from the Lakers, struggled badly against the Warriors which was also a b2b spot and looked far from convincing against a young Sacramento team.

The Clippers get the Bulls in a huge fatigue spot even this early into the season. They will be keen to return home and get a little practice in. I like the match ups for the Clippers here also. The Bulls best player Rose now is matched up against CP3! and if that's not enough they have Billips and Mo Williams! I also think Boozer and Noah will stubble with the length and hops of both Griffin and Jordan.

I like the Clippers to put on a show for the home fans and get a win against a tired Bulls team today!

NBA 2012

San Antonio Spurs At Houston Rockets
ATS - SPURS -2 (x1)

Rolling with the Spurs today over the Rockets on the road. San Antonio has taken care of two very capable sides in Memphis and the Clippers. I don't think they are given the respect they deserve. They are still a very solid side! The Lockout definately suits a side that is experienced and healthy. The lack of preseason wouldn't have effected the Spurs like other younger sides or sides with big changes in personal and or coaches. The Rockets are one of these teams with new head coach McCale trying to put his stamp on this team. This will take time.

While the Spurs are playing B2B and 3rd in 4 days. They managed to rest all their starters in the 4th quarter last night, and being so early in the season this shouldn't affect them as normal. Spurs have to much talent and are full of confidence. They get it done tonight!

New York Knicks At Los Angeles Lakers

Well the Knicks came crashing back down to earth last night! Falling badly on the road to a Warriors side still learning new game style under new coach and missing their best player Curry! One thing I took from this game was the Knicks are easily frustrated and may struggle against good defensive teams. The Warriors have improved out of site already in this area, as have the Lakers under new coach Brown!

The Lakers are 1-3 but this includes a heartbreaking loss to the Bulls @ home, then faced the Kings in their home opener on B2B and finally in their B2B2B defeated the Jazz at home. All this was without Bynum and he will serve the final game of his 4 game suspension tonight.

The Lakers have had a rest and will have cofindence now with their 1st win. Playing at home is a big advantage here also. New York now have to regroup from last nights disater and play the 2nd of their b2b games here on the road. Lakers get it done tonight!

New York Knicks At Golden State Warriors

The Knicks got the 1st win out the way with a big performance against the Celtics. While that was impressive the C's were undermanned. Melo was huge and dominated in the 4th Q! The Warrioirs are now playing their third game, going 1-1 so far. Big news for this one is Curry may miss! This is huge! Even with Curry I still lean the Knicks as I like their size inside with Chandler and Stoudamire.

I still have question marks on the Warriors defense and depth. Now if Curry misses this team will struggle on both ends. I like the Knicks to be 2-0 and move to being a dominate force in the East!

Los Angeles Clippers At San Antonio Spurs
1st Q - CLIPPERS +1.5 (x1)

The Clippers 1st Q was one of my favorite bets last season! They are a extremely good starting side. While this new group will take a little time to fully gel, I liked what I saw last start against the Warriors on the road. Especially how they finished. The confidence of the young core Griffen and Jordan will be through the roof with CP3 on board.

The Spurs overcame a slow start against Memphis to register a big win! This was somewhat of a revenge spot for the Spurs after last years 1st round loss in the playoffs. Is this a letdown spot??? I wouldn't think so, this Spurs side while aging are still very good! Especially at home. But I like the Clippers to jump out of the blocks here and take it right up to this veteran side.

I was leaning the Celtics here already to get their 1st win on the board. But news is Gordon is out for the Hornets! Their offense will really struggle with out their new star. While the Celtics are on B2B and 3rd road game, They have had good efforts, falling short against the Knicks and Heat. This is a much easier opponent and is just what the Celtics need!

Atlanta Hawks At New Jersey Nets

I'm rolling with Atlanta to get their season off to a good start today against the Nets in New Jersey. The Hawks have been around the mark for the last few years now. But probably had a disappointing year last year with their key players numbers down. They have stuck with the same core group minus Crawford and by adding vets McGrady, Stackhouse they are showing confidence within. The message from within the locker room is "No Excuses" so clearly it's time for this group to take that next step!

They face the Nets returning home on B2B after a huge come from behind win over a young Washington side, Lead by their star guard Williams and big man Humphries who had a huge 21 & 16 night! Williams will continue to star all year but I don't expect this kind of output from Kris week in week out. Already without their big man Lopez, New Jersey lack depth and the Hawks will stretch them here with duo Smith & Horford expected to see a lot of the ball on offense, along with Johnson who will be looking for a big year.

Atlanta will be without hindrich, but I like what I saw in the playoffs in Teague. He will push the ball and increase the tempo. Atlanta are simply more talented and have more depth. They catch the Nets in a good spot, B2B, potential let down coming of big come from behind win on the road and minus Lopez! Hawks cover the 2 buckets tonight!

Milwaukee Bucks At Charlotte Bobcats

I like the Bucks to start their season off with a win in Charlotte today! I see Milwalkee as a team on the rise. The lockout actually did them a favour as they were crippled with injury last season. Bogut has had extra time to fully recover and will be keen on a big year! The bucks are a solid team, one of the best defensively, and with the addition of Jackson, Dunleavy & Udrih, they should pick up on offense.

The Bobcats are going through a development phase right now. With 2 rookies as likely starters based around Henderson, Diaw & Maggette it could be a long year for MJ. They traded both Wallace to Portland(during last season) and Jackson to the Bucks to advance in the draft. They are aware they have to suffer some pain now for long term gain. That pain will be felt right here. Quite simply Milwaukee are a much more talented side and I expect Jackson to have extra motivation to stick it up his former team tonight.

Oklahoma City Thunder At Minnesota Timberwolves
1st H - THUNDER -2.5 (x1.5) WINNER

KD and the Thunder face B2B games to kick off their season. Normally a spot I avoid, but with the shortened season teams will be faced with a lot more of these than usual. OKC dominated Orlando last night and look to be a team full of confidence and on a mission! Their stars got plenty of rest during this game as it was over by 1/2 time.

They travel to Minnesota to face a young team with plenty of talent having added rookies Williams and Rubio. These two will join forces with Love and Beasely and will definately be on the improve in 2012. It will obviously take time but the Wolves are heading in the right direction finally. Having said that, tonight's opener against one of the top seeds in the league will prove to steep a task!

I have taken the Thunder 1st half as I expect them to carry on their form early and may tire later in the game being on B2B and traveling. Also I expect this young Wolves side to be a little rusty 1st game into their season. I still don't think the Thunder should have to much troubles winning their 2nd game of the year here.

OPENING NIGHT!

The NBA is back!!!

As I posted last week, these are my 2 plays for the season opener! Since I jumped on these early, the prices have moved significantly! The Heat have gone from -2.5 out to -4.5 and the Clippers have gone from +1.5 (I bet them SU @ 2.06) out to -5.5 Fav! Hope you all took these early.

Miami @ Dallas
ATS - HEAT -2.5 (x1) WINNER

In the Rematch of last years Finals, Miami must travel to Dallas and watch as they unveil the Championship flag! As if they needed any reminder.... I really like the Heat again this year and it's not hard to see why. They have kept their core unit in tack and added a few handy pieces in Battier and Curry to add to their depth. The biggest plus for Miami is this is their 2nd year together and that in itself is huge! As dominant as they were last year, I expect them to improve given the time they have all spent together learning each others games and gelling.

Dallas on the other hand will still be a force in the West but I expect them slip back a little. While they have added Odom And Carter, They have lost Chandler, Butler, Berea and Stevenson! This will hurt them on both ends of the floor! Dallas unlike Miami will need some time to gel.

Miami will have been waiting for this game to come since lasts years final! Not only are the Heat more talented they have a Huge revenge angle here as well! Miami will get the job done and spoil the Mavs party!

LA Clippers @ Golden State

I liked the Clippers last year and now the "other" team in LA just became "THE" team in LA! The additions of CP3, Billips and Butler are as big as it gets! Add these guys to one of the most promising talents I have seen in Griffen and young center Jordan and this Clippers team looks awesome!

The Clippers open their season again the Warriors in Golden State. As I stated earlier I jumped on this game as soon as the CP3 trade became official and over the last week or so the price as moved enormously! Paul is the perfect fit for this group and will bring the best out of the 2 young big men! I really like Butler, he can create his own shot and will release plenty of offensive pressure from both Paul and Griffen. He is the perfect 3 man. Another important piece is Billips! If he accepts his role and becomes the 2 guard, he too will add that fall back for Paul as he is more than capable of running the offense, creating his own shot or simply be a support and hit that spot up shot! Alot to like about the Clips in 2012!

Golden state were amoungst plenty of trade talks but amounted to nothing! Curry is a stud! And will be once again the star of this team. Ellis is solid but selfish. And Lee is also solid but needs a big defensive presence next to him! The Warriors will again score a ton of points but they stink defensively! Something I'm sure new coach Jackson will be trying to improve. But this will take time.

Tonight will be the Clippers night! Far to much talent and unless Curry and or Ellis have career nights I see them winning this one well!

Bad news for the Poms is this is another motivation factor for the Aussies. The other being their recent losses to the Kiwi's in both the World cup final and last years 4 Nations final!

Let me firstly say this price is an error on Sportingbets behave as the actual 1st half line is -24.5 @ $1.91 and the have their alternative line of -22.5 @ $2.00 where it would normally be @ $1.72.

Australia are big favourites here and rightly so! They will be without Slater, Tonga and Williams and will rest Lockyer and maybe more but they still have more than enough talent to cause some serious damage on Wales. Sheans will have the luxury of trying a few thing out and give different players more minutes. There replacements are Yow Yea, Morris, Parker, and Cherry-Evans. Boyd will slot into the fullback position with Yow Yea and Morris starting on the wings. Cooper Cronk will partner JT in the halves and Parker is added to the forward rotations. This side still looks bloody good!

I expect the Aussies to make a statement here early. With "fringe" players given more opportunity expect them to do everything they can to be their for next weeks final. England defeated Wales 42-4 and NZ beat them 36-0..... This one will get ugly! Australia to cover the 22.5 in the opening halve and win convincingly.

Australia face England at Wembley Stadium this week end for the second round of matches in the 4 Nations. Both teams came away with a win as expected in their openers with the Aussies defeating NZ by 14 and England taking care of Wales by 38. The English do claim to be an improved outfit and with regular NRL players Heighington, Reed, Widdop and Ellis you could see why. Adding to that the up and coming talent Tomkins and Vet Morley they will be out to impress in front of their home crowd.

This all sound good but could you believe the Aussies actually get stronger!!! GI is back and the Poms will still be having nightmares from the last time this man played against them. Australia do lose Shillington to injury but have named Farrar, B.Scott & Parker on the extended interchange as more than capable cover. Australia simply dominate on every line here. The Poms strengths would be young fullback Tomkins who will ask plenty of questions to the Aussies defense, but then Billy will do that and more. And while England's pack of Ellis, Heighington and Morley will provide a decent platform, the Aussies pack of Gallen, Scott, Lewis, Thiaday and Watmough will prove a hard task to contain. Thurston, Lockyer, Smith, Cronk is a nightmare for anyone just ask New Zealand.....

Australia lead the H2H match ups 6-2-1. Winning their last match up convincingly 34-14 in Australia last year. England's 2 wins were on home soil but I'm really clutching at straws to make a case for the poms here in this one. As I have stated previously, the Australians have made a commitment not to get to far ahead of itself in this tournament and take each game at a time with equal importance as a result of recent tournament collapses.

Quite simply Australia dominate in all areas across the park and will prove to strong. They will have to many points in them for the Poms to contain and stay with. Australia beat the Kiwis by 14 and I see them as stronger opposition than England so the Aussies to win well in this one.

Australia meet New Zealand once again and while I do expect it to be a little tighter than the last time these teams meet a fortnight ago, I'm still expecting the same result. While the Kiwis do lift for these tournaments and I expect they will produce a better out put. Trouble for them is this Aussie side is unchanged and full of confidence!

They now have a Unbelieveable dominance over the Kiwis winning 15 of the past 18! But even with this the Aussies still have revenge on the minds! The Kiwis are the current 4 Nations champions causing an upset in last years final over the Aussies! So you can bet they will not be taking any game for granted especially the Kiwis!

As I mentioned the Aussies are unchanged and have far to much class and experience for the young kiwis. Leading the way are Gallen, Thiday and Scott up front setting the platform for some of the worlds most devasting play makers Lockyer, Thurston, Smith and Slater! I do expect Benji and Foran to produce a better output but it won't be enough here. Aussies win well again.

AUSTRALIA v NEW ZEALAND

Just when we thought the season was over this series pops up! Huge match up here, The Aussies have well and truly dominated the Kiwis over the years winning 14 of the last 17 however two of those losses were the 2008 World Cup final & last years Tri Nation final!!! Not the two you would want to drop!

However the Aussies just look a little more potent and with regular reps Slater, Lockyer, Smith, Thurston, Gallan leading the way will prove to strong on home soil. Something tells me Thurston and Lockyer in particular will have points to prove! Darren didn't get the finish he was hoping for at the end of the NRL season due to injury. He will be keen to finish his Stella career on a high!

The Kiwis have their weapons no doubt and Marshall & Foran are great halves to lead the way, but with some key injuries they will go into this match with five rookies! The experienced Aussies get it done here comfortably.

2011 Campaign Wrap

My 2011 Sports Investing Campaign has come to an end!

Finishing @ 299 - 250 - 7 (+99.81 @ 54.5%)

This year has been a huge success. I started this blog at the very end of December 2010 and my final plays were over the AFL & NRL Grandfinals on October 1st & 2nd. For the 2011 campaign I include only 3 sports. NBA, AFL & NRL with a separate category for Multi's. Here's how each finished up:

AFL : 103-94-2 (+72.94u @ 52.3%)
FINALS: 6-4 +6.58u @ 60%

Huge year in the AFL for season 2011! My best yet. This was partly because of my big win in the Brownlow which added just under +30 units thanks to D.Swan! So still +40 units for the regular season & finals! Clearly my strongest Category!

NRL : 65-54-3 (+8.69u @ 54.6%)
FINALS:3-5 -3.29u @ 37.5%

The NRL was an interesting year to say the least... After a disasterous start it wasn't until the half way point of the season that my total was finally in the black! Its fait to say this years totals are a little under where I would have liked at the beginning of the season but to finish +8.7 units after such a bad start is great! Plenty of improvement for next season.

NBA : 131-102-2 (+14.15u @ 56.5%)

The NBA season is by far the most challenging as it requires constant assessing as once the season begins games are played daily! It just never stops! This season was great! I actually finished the regular season with +30 units! my Playoffs campaign was terrible and consequently halved my total.... This will be addressed next season guaranteed! Still +14 units is a good result.

MULTI'S : 4-10 (+4.02u )

This year I also included a separate category for Multi's or Teasers.... As you can see hitting 30-40% is about right and I made a small profit +4 units. These bets are more for a bit of interest and should not be relied upon. I cannot stress this enough!

So my 2012 Campaign begins!!!

This year I will include 2 new Categories. The NFL and NCAA, which will be a combination of both College Football and Basketball plays. I look forward to bring you these new categories as well my regulars NBA, AFL & NRL!

I will run each of my yearly campaigns from the begin the the NFL & College Football seasons in September through to the completion of the AFL & NRL seasons at the end of September. Look forward to another successful year in 2012!!!

Cats to take the flag and make it 3 outta 5!

Rolling with the inform Cats in today's big dance. Really like the way Chris Scott has managed this team all year with rotating players and it appears he has his side primed for this clash! Baring Stevie J, all players are cherry ripe and in good nick. Impressive wins over West Coast and Hawthorn in the final series and the demolition of the Magpies in round 24 has seen the Cats price go from $2 outsider (which is when I posted this play) to under $1.80 favorites at some bookies!

Geelong's major concern all week has been the fitness of Stevie J and he appears all but certain to play! This is huge for the Cats as whether he is fit or not, will still demand close attention from the Collingwood defense! If he wasn't to play I suspect you could see the likes of Harry O used in a more offensive nature. Johnson's inclusion will limit Harry's impact.

The Magpies appear to also be in the clear of their injury concerns. Jolly and Reid both look likely to play! But are they 100%? I would suggest not. This is a much greater gamble than the Cats are taking with Stevie J as the Ruck and Key Defender positions are much more difficult to cover should either go down or give below par performance's. Ottens looms as the real concern for the Magpies should either of these two not come to play as he is in outstanding touch and a proven big game performer in the ruck then drifting deep forward.

The Collingwood key forwards, Cloke in particular have been dominant all year but the Cats defense of Talor, Lonergan, Enright, Hunt, Mackie, Wojo and lead by Scarlett will prove very difficult to crack! The on ball bregade looks solid for both and should be a classic battle. I also like the Bartel/Ball H2H DT match up. Jimmy is a big DT points accumulator, he loves it in these conditions and has proven he lifts for the big games. Ball I think will receive some close checking and Bartel could avoid the solid tag with Selwood and Stevie J likely to attract more attention. So it's the Cats in a beauty!

The Cats time is Now!

Geelong will prove to much for the young up and coming Eagles to withstand on Saturday and advance to their 4th Grand final in 5 years! This is also the Cats 5th straight Prelim Final! Amazing considering the quality of personnel that left Geelong last year.

The Eagles have been outstanding in 2011! Coming from wooden spooners to top 4! But I just feel they may have played their Grandfinal last week. That was a huge effort from the players to withstand the Blues late charge and manage all the knocks and injuries along the way. I still have concerns on how Kennedy, LeCra & McKenzie will pull up. Geelong has one major injury of it's own with young star Menzel out with a knee. This is a big loss as he has added fresh legs and a spark that I believe the Cats were lacking in 2010. Having said that, when you are Able to replace him with a 2 time All Australian and Best & Fairest in Joel Corey your doing pretty well. The Depth of the Cats is top of the class with 3 premiership players, 2 of which are also All Australian named as emergencies. Milburn, Mooney & Byrnes.

One big question for the Cats is can they control the tall Eagles forwards, Kennedy, Lynch, Darling, Cox and Nic Natinui? Tough ask as most teams have discovered this year but with the experience of the Cats Backline that boasts 3 All Australians and all of which are premiership players Scarlett, Enright, Taylor, Hunt, Wocjinski & Mackie, they will hold the forwards at bay.

I expect a real tough tight contest. Hense the reason I have played Geelong 1-39. West Coast have only lost 6 games all year, and only once has it been over this margin (52pts v Collingwood). All the rest have been by 13(SYD), 7(HAW), 16(ESS), 21(STK)& 20(COLL). West Coast will have confidence having beaten Geelong in their one and only encounter this year. West Coast has not won @ the MCG for along time and the Cats have a perfect 7-0 record here in 2011. All bar the Round 24 massacre of Collingwood (96pts) have been close encounters. Margins are 1(STK), 17(HAW), 3(COLL), 5(HAW), 28(STK)& 31(COLL).

I expect the Eagles to throw everything at Geelong but as against the Hawks the class and experience of the Cats will see them advance to the big dance again! The extra week rest will prove the difference against a banged up West Coast.

But to be honest I liked Manly to win even with Lockyer. The extra week off is like gold this time of year. Manly too much class in this one.

I'm rolling with the Storm to be far to strong for the some what surprise of the finals the Warriors. Melbourne have had the luxury of an extra week off and are once again playing at their fortress home ground in Melbourne. I do realize the Warriors are perhaps an exception to this as they have had recent success @ AMMI Park.

However the Warriors are in a very bad spot here. Their last few weeks have ticked up some serious frequent flyer points. NZ to Brisbane to NZ to Sydney to NZ now to Melbourne! This has to take it's toll. While the Storm have again having the luxury of no travel during this time.

The Warriors were smashed by the Broncos in the first week of the finals and then came from the dead to steal the win last week against the Tigers. They may have to do much the same here if they want to advance any further as Melbourne are one of the best front running sides in the comp. The Storm Will prove a lot more difficult to score against than the Tigers as they grind their opposition against the wall.

The pure class of the Storms 1,7 & 9 Slater, Cronk & Smith will prove to good and experienced for the extremely young and talented 1 & 7 in particular Locke & Johnson from the Warriors. These two young guns could well be the next star duo but for right now it's the Storms time. Redemption for 2010 is still very much on the Storms minds and I see them jumping out of the blocks and proving far too good for the Young Warriors. Leading @ the half & covering the 6 points.

The Eagles will be out to stretch what is a very small Carlton outfit still missing key big men Kruezer and Waite. Cox, Nick Nat, Q Lynch, Kennedy and Darling will all push forward which will be to much for the Blues to contain.

West Coast have won all bar one match at home this season. Once again turning the trip to West a nightmare for visiting sides! And on the back of a 6 day break the Blues will definitely be up against it. I have taken thee margin 1-39 reasons being the Blues haven been beaten by over 6 goals all year! They are a proud club and I expect with Judd leading from the front they will stay within this margin again.

This match was viewed as a grand final preview just a few weeks ago. But now the Dragons have dropped their past 4 matches! Incredible! They are letting in easy points and their players look tired or injured, with Gas missing and doubts over Morris and Soward. Melbourne have suffered a blow with key play maker Cronk missing, but I like the emergence of Widdop and Blair. Widow in particular proved in a match during the Origin series that he is more than capable of leading this team around the park.

North Melourne have been relatively competative in 2011, baring 3 big losses to Collingwood twice and Geelong, the rest of their games have been fairly close. North have a pretty good record down here also, winning the last clash against these sides last year.

North appear to be at close to full strength and may just stretch the Hawks injury hit defense with Petrie in career best form as well as Edwards and Hansen. The Hawks will welcome back their skipper Hodge for this one but as we know are still a number of key players short of their best 22! On the back of some good form last week and with the recent announcement of playing more games here in Tassie, I expect a good showing from the Roos today. Take the points on offer as the weather should keep this on close.

They have been questioned as a club and must make a stand! While I still feel the Blues will be to strong I just think this group of players must throw everything they have today! While some of the players dropped has surprised me, they had to make a stand.I do like the inclusions. Scully and Davey are their prime movers and Bartram and MacDonald won't take a backward step. I have grabbed extra points here but feel this game should be around the 4-5 goal mark if Melbourne turn up!

2nd game is much like the first. Port are hosting the Premiers who are in red hot form. While the Power are ready to close the book on 2011. Tonight they will be sending off one of their great warriors in Chad Cornes. Surely the will be at least competitive? I think with Cornes leading from the front this young group may just follow and lift for this one. Once again I have grabbed extra points but with the help of some bad weather this one should stay under 10 goals.
